In Search of the Inner Child uses images of my father. The top layer of pink paint shows his portrait as a surgeon in the 1960’s. Underneath, the pale green layer depicts his early adulthood serving in the navy during World War II and on the bottom layer of sky blue paint are images from his childhood. At the center, underneath all the layers of paint is the original wall fabric upon which I transferred a small photo of my father as a toddler.  The image is framed and mounted on a stand lit from behind.

BENEATH THE LAYERS

While renovating my 1918 dining room, fragments of wall covering became the canvas for a series of images based on my own family history. The old surfaces with multiple layers of chipped paint inspired the concept of pealing back time using vintage photographs transferred to each layer of paint that had built up for over a hundred years.

Time Frame

This piece depicts my mother at age 21. Behind her is a photo of her mother at around the same age who sits in front of a youthful image of my great grandmother. The photos were transferred onto different layers of paint from a wall fragment that was removed from my 1918 dining room.  It is mounted on Plexiglas that swivels to reveal future generations on the backside with the same image of my mother in reverse sitting in front a portrait of her daughter and her grand daughter with baby thus completing the six generations shown in this piece.

In Search of is a triptych of wall covering fragments removed from my 1918 dining room that serve as canvas for images of the family and home. This piece consists of three sets of hinged panels (diptychs) with photos that are superimposed on architectural renderings and interior photographs.  The wall covering pieces are mounted on Plexiglas that is fitted into a wooden base.
